L’esito positivo di una riunione unito ad una buona organizzazione, costituiscono la base per il successo degli affari. Nel seguente capitolo vengono presentati le espressioni e gli esercizi utili per organizzare gli incontri.
1. USEFUL PHRASES = FRASI UTILI
1.1. MAKING MEETING ARRANGEMENTS = PRENDERE ACCORDI RIGUARDO LE RIUNIONI
- I’m writing to set up/arrange… = Le scrivo per fissare/concordare …
- Just a quick note to arrange a time to meet. = La chiamo per concordare l’ora della riunione.
- How/What about Tuesday? = Martedì le va bene?
- Is Monday/… OK? = Lunedì/… andrebbe bene?
- Where/When should we meet? = Dove/Quando ci incontriamo?
- Should I pick you up at/from … ? = Posso venire a prenderla da…?
- Could you collect me at … ? = Può venire a prendermi da…?
- What date would be convenient for you? = Quale data le andrebbe bene?
- What time would suit you? = Quale ora le andrebbe bene?
- Would Monday at 10.30 suit you? = Lunedì alle 10.30 andrebbe bene?
- Is 5 March at 6 pm convenient for you? = 5 marzo alle 18 andrebbe bene?
- Can you manage … ? / How about … ? = È in grado di/Cosa ne pensa di…?
Per esprimere ipotesi negative si utilizzano le seguenti espressioni formali:
- Should you be unavailable on Monday at 6 pm/at this time… = Nel caso lunedì alle 18.00 non è disponibile…
- Should this not be convenient for you… = Se questo non le va bene …
Per i termini più informali:
- If Monday at 6 pm/this does not suit you… = Se lunedì alle 18:00/questo non le va bene …
- If Monday at 6 pm/this is not suitable/convenient for you… = Se lunedì alle 18:00/questo non le aggrada/ non le va bene…
- If Monday at 6 pm/this does not fit with your schedule/plans/… = Se lunedì alle 18:00/questo non rientra nel suo orario/programma…
1.2. SOME RESPONSES = ALCUNE RISPOSTE
- Tuesday would be good for me. = Martedì andrà bene per me.
- Monday’s bad for me, I’m afraid. = Purtroppo lunedì non va bene per me, mi spiace.
- That sounds fine. = Questo mi va bene.
- Yes, that would be good for me. = Sì, questo mi andrebbe bene.
- I think that should be possible. = Credo, che sarebbe possibile.
- No, I don’t think that would be possible. = No, penso che non sarebbe possibile.

TOM: How flexible is your calendar this week? We need to schedule a meeting with our partners.
JIM: Yeah, you’re totally right. Let me just see.

TOM: Either one would work for me.
JIM: Well let’s get it out of the way sooner rather than later, shall we?

Dialog 4
TOM: Good afternoon. We’re just calling to say that we would gladly be able to meet with you this week.
JIM: Oh, great news. I was anticipating your response.
TOM: When can we set something up?
JIM: We are due in court on Friday morning, so we need to have this issue cleared up before then. Do you have any free time before Friday?
TOM: Of course. We will make time for you. We have a meeting already scheduled with another partner on Wednesday, but we would be happy to call it off, if that helps.
JIM: Sounds great, actually. That would give us Thursday to debrief after the meeting.
TOM: Ok, it’s a date.
Dialog 5
TOM: We would be happy to meet with you again, but we ask that you are a little more prepared this time.
JIM: What do you mean?
TOM: Last time we had the feeling that no one had read the minutes from the previous meeting, and we wasted time as a result.
JIM: Ok, we will make sure to review the proceedings from last meeting, and plan for a more structured approach.
TOM: Good, because we have a busy schedule this week, and it would be a shame to lose time.
JIM: Yeah the worst thing is scheduling a meeting just to schedule another meeting.
TOM: Exactly, let’s try to be more efficient this time.
