Asking for opinion, expressing opinion and rephrasing = Chiedere l’opinione, esprimere l’opinione e riformulare le frasi
Non si può fare a meno di esprimere opinioni nella vita quotidiana e nel mondo degli affari. In inglese ci sono molte frasi per esprimere in modo corretto il proprio parere e chiedere consigli. È consigliabile conoscerle perché un’opinione espressa in un modo inappropriato porta tutt’altro che benefici.
La riformulazione è uno strumento linguistico importante e utile, che permette l’espressione di idee in modi diversi. Nella comunicazione scritta o orale si può chiarire e semplificare un’idea o un concetto con l’aiuto della riformulazione.
In questo capitolo sono presentate le frasi e gli esercizi per esprimere opinioni e riformulazioni.
1. OPINIONS = OPINIONI
1.1. ASKING FOR OPINION = CHIEDERE UN’OPINIONE
- What do you think of/about…? Cosa ne pensa di …?
- What is your opinion of…? = Qual è la sua opinione su …?
- What is your attitude toward…? = Qual è il tuo atteggiamento verso …?
- What’s your point of view of…(this)?/What’s your view of…? = Qual è il suo punto di vista riguardo …(questo)?
- How do you feel about…? = Cosa ne pensa di…?
- Could I have your feedback/input? = Posso sentire la sua opinione?
- I’d be interested to know your thoughts on/what you think about… = Mi interessano i suoi pensieri/cosa ne pensa di…
- Do you agree that… = È d’accordo che…
- Are you in favor of = È a favore…
- Do you oppose or favor… = È favorevole o contrario…
1.2.EXPRESSING OPINION = ESPRIMERE UN PARERE

2. AGREEMENT VS. DISAGREEMENT = ACCORDO VERSO DISACCORDO
2.1.EXPRESSING AGREEMENT = ESPRIMERE ACCORDO
- (Yes), I think so, too. = (Sì) anch’io la penso così.
- I agree. = Sono d’accordo.
- You’re (absolutely) right. = Avete (assolutamente) ragione.
- Of course. = Naturalmente.
- That’s a good point. = È un buon punto.
- Exactly. = Esattamente.
- (That’s)True. = (Questo) è vero.
- I’d go along with that. = Concordo con questo.
- I agree in a way, but… = Sono d’accordo fino ad un certo punto, ma …
- It depends… = Dipende…
- I agree with you completely/entirely. = Sono completamente d’accordo con lei.
- I couldn’t agree more. = Non potrei essere più d’accordo.
- That’s just what I was thinking. = È esattamente quello che avevo in mente.
- I’m (definitely) in favor of … = Sono (assolutamente) a favore…
2.2.EXPRESSING DISAGREEMENT = ESPRIMERE DISACCORDO
- I can’t agree (with you). = Non sono d’accordo (con lei).
- I’m sorry to disagree, but… = Mi dispiace di non essere d’accordo, ma …
- I’m afraid I have to disagree. = Purtroppo, non posso essere d’accordo.
- That’s not (entirely) true. = Questo non è (del tutto) vero.
- That’s different. = Questo è diverso.
- On the contrary,… = Al contrario…
- I’m not sure about that. = Non sono sicuro di questo.
- I’m not sure I can agree with that. = Non sono sicuro se posso essere d’accordo con questo.
- (Yes), but don’t you think… = (Sì,) ma non pensa …
- I would argue that… = Non sono d’accordo che…
- I don’t believe… = Non credo che…
- I do not agree that… = Non concordo che…
- I am unconvinced that… = Non sono convinto che…
- I disagree… = Non sono d’accordo…
- I can’t believe there’s any truth in that. = Penso che non c’è alcuna verità in questo.
- I could not disagree more. = Non potrei essere più contrario.
- I must take issue with you on that… = Non posso essere d’accordo con lei …
- That can’t be right. = Non può essere vero.
- Come on! = Suvvia!
- Surely not! = Sicuramente no!
3. CLARIFYING = CHIARIRE
- Sorry, could you repeat that? = Può ripetere, per favore?
- Sorry, I didn’t quite get that. = Mi dispiace, non ho capire bene.
- What exactly do you mean by… ? = Cosa esattamente intende per …?
- As you know, we really do need to… = Come lei sa, dobbiamo davvero…
- I’ll fill you in on … = Mi permetta di informarla…
- By this I mean (that)… = Con questo penso, (che)…
- Here I’m referring to… = Qui mi riferisco a…
- That is to say… = Vale a dire/quindi…
- To be more precise… = Per essere più preciso…
4. INTERRUPTING = INTERROMPERE
- Could I just say that…? = Posso solo dire che …?
- I’d like to add a point here. = A questo punto vorrei aggiungere il mio parere.
- Excuse me, can I just come in here? = Scusate, posso intervenire?
- Could I say something about that? = Posso aggiungere anch’io qualcosa a riguardo?
- Could you stop there for a moment? = Potete attendere un attimo?
- Before you go on, let me… = Prima che continuiate, lasciatemi…
- Just a moment! = Solo un attimo!
5. REPHRASING (sometimes also ‘paraphrasing’) = RIFORMULAZIONE (a volte anche “parafrasare”
Some examples of rephrasing expressions used to express something in a different way = Alcuni esempi di riformulazioni usate per esprimere qualcosa in modo diverso
- What I meant to say was that the market is unlikely to change.= Volevo solo dire che è improbabile che il mercato cambi.
- Let me rephrase that… The market is unlikely to change. = Mi faccia parafrasare… È improbabile che il mercato cambierà.
- Let me put this another way… The market is unlikely to change. = Mettiamola in un altro modo … È improbabile che il mercato cambi.
- Perhaps I’m not making myself clear… We have to invest €30,000 immediately. = Forse non sono stato abbastanza chiaro … Dobbiamo investire immediatamente € 30.000.
- In other words… We have to invest €30,000 immediately. = In altre parole … Dobbiamo investire 30.000 € immediatamente.
- So, what you mean is… We have to invest €30,000 immediately. = Quindi pensa che dovremmo immediatamente investire € 30.000.
- So, what you’re saying is… selling 3,000 products a month is no solution. = Quindi sta dicendo che la vendita di 3.000 prodotti al mese non è una soluzione.
- What I think you’re saying/thinking is… that selling 3,000 products a month is no solution. = Penso che sta dicendo che vendere 3.000 prodotti al mese non è una soluzione.
- Let me see if I understand you correctly… selling 3,000 products a month is no solution. = Vediamo se ho capito bene … la vendita di 3.000 prodotti al mese, non è nessuna soluzione.
- If I’m hearing you correctly… we can’t expect a rise. = Se l’ho capita correttamente… non possiamo aspettarci un aumento.
5.1.OTHER EXAMPLES OF REPHRASING = ALTRI ESEMPI DI RIFORMULAZIONE
5.1.1. Using reported speech = Utilizzo del discorso diretto
- My co-worker asked, “What are you planning”? = Il mio collega ha chiesto: “Cosa sta pianificando?” → My co-worker asked me what I was planning. = Il mio collega mi chiese cosa stavo pianificando.
5.1.2. Other examples of rephrasing = Altri esempi di riformulazione
- There is no obligation for you to buy the products. = Non siete obbligati a comprare i prodotti.
→ You don’t have to buy the products. = Non siete tenuti a comprare i prodotti. - Their company is so big you wouldn’t believe your eyes. = La loro azienda è così grande che non crederai ai tuoi occhi.
→ They have such a big company, you wouldn’t believe your eyes. = Hanno un’azienda talmente grande che non crederai ai tuoi occhi.
- I have never seen a company that big. = Non ho mai visto un’azienda così grande.
→ It’s the first time I have seen a company that big. = È la prima volta che ho visto un’azienda così grande.
