Present Tense Continuous
1) Azione che si sta svolgendo nel momento in cui parliamo (now, at the moment):
- Mike is watching the news now.
- He’s reading an article.
- He is meeting our CEO next month.
In questo esempio si usano verbi see, meet, go, come, leave, stay, arrive:
- We are leaving next month.
- I am reading a really interesting book today. = Oggi sto leggendo un libro molto interessante.
- My brother is renovating his room. = Mio fratello sta rinnovando la sua camera.
4) Tendenze:
- More and more people are using Twitter.
- Peter is always picking his nose. (I don’t like it.)= Peter si mette sempre le dita nel naso.
Simple Present:
- Peter picks his nose. (Here I don’t show my dislike.) = Peter si mette le dita nel naso.
2) FORMA
La forma appropriata del verbo to be nel presente (am/are/is*) + infinito + suffisso “–ing”
*am: con I
is: con he/she/it
are: con we/you/they
3) FORMA AFFERMATIVA/NEGATIVA/INFORMATIVA
+
I am listening to the radio. (la forma contratta di am è “’m”: I’m listening to the radio.)
He/she/it is listening to the radio. (la forma contratta di is è “’s”: He’s listening to the radio.)
We/you/they are listening to the radio. (la forma contratta di are è “’re”: We’re listening to the radio.)
Usare quindi am con I, is con he, she, it e are con gli altri pronomi.
–
Nelle forme negative si nega il verbo ausiliare (am not/is not/are not):
I am not listening to the radio. (la forma contratta di am è “’m”: I’m not listening to the radio.)
He/she/it is not listening to the radio. (la forma contratta di is not è isn’t)
We/you/they are not listening to the radio. (la forma contratta di are not è aren’t)
?
Nelle forme interrogative il verbo ausiliare (am/are/is) è anteposto al soggetto.
Quindi: verbo ausiliare + soggetto + verbo con significati pieno + resto:
Am I listening to the radio?
Is he/she/it listening to the radio?
Are we/you/they listening to the radio?
4) AVVERBI
- now
- at the moment
Questi verbi esprimono emozioni (want, like, dislike, wish, love, prefer, hate, adore), stati (belong, remain, own, seem, have, contain), processi cognitivi (understand, know, realize, think), percezioni (smell, feel, taste, see, hear):
- I understand Japanese. = Capisco il giapponese.
- He doesn’t like fish. = Non gli piace il pesce.
- I know her. = La conosco.
- I have a small house.

- She’s seeing her boyfriend in three hours. = Incontrerà il suo ragazzo fra tre ore. (riunione pianificata)

–have
- He is having a bath.
- She has three children. = Lei ha tre bambini.
