I verbi seguiti da un oggetto (non necessariamente) e “to”-infinitivo
1) I verbi che seguono sono seguiti dall’infinitivo con “to”. Sono possibili due strutture:
-verbo + “to”
-verbo + oggetto + “to”.
- I want you to be my best man at the wedding. = Vorrei che tu fossi il mio testimone alle nozze.
- I want to know his standpoint.= Vorrei sapere il suo punto di vista.
- The teachers expect us to know whole sonnets by heart. = Gli insegnanti si aspettano da noi che sappiamo tutti i sonetti a memoria.
- I expect to meet Jane in the library. = Mi aspetto di incontrare Jane in biblioteca.
- Can I ask you to vacuum up the living room? = Ti posso chiedere di pulire con l’aspirapolvere il soggiorno?
- Kim was asked to leave. = È stato chiesto a Kim di andarsene.
- He begged me not to leave. = Mi ha pregato di non andare.
- Can you help me carry these bags? = Mi puoi aiutare a portare queste borse?
- My husband helps to do the clean the pool whenever he can. = Mio marito mi aiuta a pulire la piscina quando può.
- Mini would like Mauro to marry her. = Mini vorrebbe che Mauro la sposasse.
- Milena would like to tell her opinion. = Milena vorrebbe dire la sua opinione.
- Nico would prefer his girlfriend to be more energetic. = Nico preferirebbe che la sua ragazza fosse energetica.
- He would prefer to stay at the seaside. = Lui preferirebbe restare in riva al mare.
- I would love my wife to become pregnant again. = Desidero che mia moglie resti incinta di nuovo.
- I would love to say “yes” but I can’t. = Vorrei dire di “sì”, ma non posso.
- I would hate my daughter to repeat my mistakes. = Odierei se mia figlia ripetesse i miei errori.
- I would hate to hear anything like that. = Detesterei di sentire una cosa del genere.
2) Con i seguenti verbi è possibile soltanto la struttura verbo + oggetto + “to”:
- I told you to drive more slowly. = Ti ho detto di guidare più piano.
- We ordered our children to go home right away. = Abbiamo ordinato ai nostri figli di andare subito a casa.
- Nero reminded me to take my ID card. = Nero mi ha ricordato di prendere la mia carta d’identità.
- They warned us not to sail in the storm. = Ci hanno avvertito di non navigare durante una tempesta.
- His father forced him to tell the truth. = Suo padre lo ha costretto a dire la verità.
- Will you invite a lot of friends to join us? = Inviterai molti amici?
- The money from her grandparents enabled her to buy a flat. = Il denaro dei suoi nonni le ha consentito di acquistare un appartamento.
- Nevio persuaded his wife to name their newborn after his father. = Nevio ha convinto sua moglie a dare al neonato il nome di suo padre.
- At our secondary school the teachers taught us to be respectful. = Nella nostra scuola secondaria, gli insegnanti ci hanno insegnato a essere più rispettosi.
- Nerina got her husband to do the shopping and she did the housework. = Nerina ha costretto suo marito a fare la spesa e lei ha fatto i lavori di casa.
