Passive voice = Passivo
- They built a new house. = Hanno costruito una nuova casa. – attivo
- A new house was built. = È stata costruita una nuova casa. – passivo
1) Forma
– l’oggetto nella forma passiva diventa soggetto nella forma passiva e va all’inizio della frase;
– il soggetto nella forma attiva diventa oggetto nella forma passiva o semplicemente viene omesso;
– si usa il verbo “to be” nello stesso tempo del verbo con il significato pieno nella forma attiva;
– si aggiunge il “Past Participle” del verbo con il significato pieno nella forma attiva (verbo regolare con il suffisso “-ed” o la terza forma del verbo irregolare);
Attivo | Matej | wrote | a poem. |
Passivo | A poem | was written | by Matej. |
TEMPO | ATTIVO | PASSIVO |
Present Simple | Luca writes books. | Books are written (by Luca). |
Past Simple | Luca wrote books. | Books were written (by Luca). |
Present Perfect | Luca has written books. | Books have been written (by Luca). |
Past Perfect | Luca had written books. | Books had been written (by Luca). |
will-future | Luca will write books. | Books will be written (by Luca). |
going to-future | Luca is going to write books next year. | Books are going to be written (by Luca) next year. |
TEMPO | ATTIVO | PASSIVO |
Present Continuous | I am writing an article. | An article is being written (by me). |
Past Continuous | I was writing an article. | An article was being written (by me). |
Present Perfect Continuous | I have been writing an article. | An article has been being written (by me). |
Past Perfect Continuous | I had been writing an article. | An article had been being written (by me). |
Future Continuous | I will be writing an article. | An article will be being written (by me). |
Future Perfect Continuous | I will have been writing an article. | An article will have been being written (by me). |
2) Esprimere l’agente dell’azione
Forma attiva | Forma passiva |
The police found the missing boy. | The missing boy was found by the police. |
1. esempio: The boy gave the flowers to the girl.
2. esempio: The boy gave the girl the flowers.
– the girl (nel dativo)
– the flowers (nell’accusativo)
soggetto | verbo | dativo (a chi o a cosa?) | accusativo (chi o cosa?) |
The boy | gave | the girl | the tulips. |
Attivo (2. possibilità)
soggetto | verbo | accusativo (chi o cosa?) | dativo (a chi o a cosa?) |
The boy | gave | the tulips | to the girl. |
soggetto | verbo | accusativo (chi o cosa?) | “by” esprime l’agente dell’azione |
The girl | was given | the tulips | (by the boy). |
Passivo (2. possibilità)
soggetto | verbo | dativo (a chi o a cosa?) | “by” esprime l’agente dell’azione |
The tulips | were given | to the girl | (by the boy). |
Forma attiva | Forma passiva |
They took care of the issue. | The issue was taken care of. |
1) Verbi modali (esempio: should, must, have/has to, might, may)
Forma attiva | Forma passiva |
Adrina must write the report. | The report must be written. |
They have to finish the building by this winter. | The building has to be finished by this winter. |
