Presentation = Presentazione
SAMPLE DIALOGS
Dialog 1
TOM: The welcome we got before that presentation was really nice, right?
JIM: Yeah, I liked how the speaker took a minute to add a personal touch.
TOM: She really won me over when she said what a pleasure it was to have the opportunity to meet with us.
JIM: Yeah it set the tone from the very start.
TOM: Her visual aids were great too.
JIM: I agree. The way she used different graphs was very effective.
TOM: Too bad we don’t have a presenter like that at our company.
JIM: Hey, my presentation wasn’t bad, either!
Dialog 2
TOM: What are some things you’d never do at a presentation?
JIM: As an audience member or as a presenter?
TOM: As a presenter, of course!
JIM: Don’t labor a particular point. Make it, and move on.
TOM: What else?
JIM: Don’t speak in monotone, but add some dynamic elements.
TOM: All good points. One other thing, maybe?
JIM: Never turn your back on the audience. Always stand so that your body is facing them.
TOM: I think I’ll be better already!
Dialog 3
TOM: What will we do after the presentation?
JIM: We will open up the floor for discussion and answer any questions.
TOM: Will we ask for any feedback before we adjourn?
JIM: Yes, I think that’s a good idea.
TOM: Should we have a formal presentation evaluation?
JIM: No I think just an informal question about what the other team thinks should suffice.
TOM: Then we’ll wrap it up and go have a coffee?
JIM: Sounds like a plan!
Dialog 4
TOM: Your presentation really called attention to the issue.
JIM: Thanks. I was trying to make the case clear.
TOM: The plenary before the presentation set the matter in people’s heads already, but you really drove the point home.
JIM: It was a good opportunity to discuss things in more detail.
TOM: Another plus was that you never even had to refer to your notes, so you came across as really confident.
JIM: I was well-rehearsed.
TOM: It really showed!
Dialog 5
TOM: Nothing worked at the presentation today!
JIM: What do you mean?
TOM: At first the power outlets weren’t working, then there was a problem with the extension cord, and lastly the cables themselves were bad. The electricity was hopeless.
JIM: Did it go well after that?
TOM: No, the projector overheated, there was no metal surface to stick my magnets on, and to top it all off, the blinds wouldn’t shut all the way so light came in through the windows. It was terrible!
JIM: Sounds like you had a bit of bad luck, today.
TOM: Murphy’s law, I’m telling you.
JIM: Yeah, and when it rains, it pours!
