Pronouns introducing relative clauses = Pronomi che introducono proposizioni subordinate
1) Whose
Sostituisce “his/her/its/their”:
- I can ask my co-worker – his knowledge of law is very good – to give me a piece of advice
I can ask my co-worker whose knowledge of law is very good to give me a piece of advice.

- My sister who is also a nurse helped me clear my wound. (he is also a doctor)= Mia sorella, che è anche un’infermiera, mi ha aiutato a pulire la mia ferita.
“Whose” si usa al posto di “his/her/its/their”, “who” invece al posto di “he/she/they”.
2) Whom
- We met a woman last week. She will help us advertise our products.
The woman whom we met yesterday will help us advertise our products. (We met her.) - My son whom I gave a very strict upbringing has become a successful businessman. (I gave him a strict upbringing.)
- The Italian with whom we spent our summer holidays invited us to visit him. (We spent our holidays with him.)
- The schoolmate from whom I borrowed the books hasn’t failed any exam so far. (I borrowed the books from her.)
- The woman we met… (oppure: the woman who/that we met…)
- The schoolmate I borrowed the books from… (oppure: The schoolmate who/that I borrowed the books from…)
3) Which
- Lucy left Mark. This shocked everybody.
- John passed his last exam, which is great. (Non si dice “what is great”)
- My boss invited me for a drink, which shocked me. (Non si dice “what surprised me”)
4) All of/most of + whom/which
